Slipcover Fabric Selection Guide
Selecting the proper fabric for your slipcovers is very important.
Your slipcovers will last for many enjoyable years if constructed with the right type of fabric.
When selecting a fabric keep in mind that a slipcover at certain points is up to six layers of fabric thick
. If too thick of a fabric is selected some seams will not lay flat on the furniture.
Also keep in mind if the raw edges of the fabric seem to fray in your hand, serging ( machine overstitching)
of all inside seams is recommended or your seams may not hold up after repeated cleaning's. Tightly woven fabrics
of a color that will not allow the underlying pattern of the furniture to show though work best.
Below are my fabric recommendations for each type of slipcover.
Fitted slipcovers: ( fitted like a glove)
- Drapery weight decorator fabric
- Denim
- Twill
- Cotton blends
- Corduroy
- Medium weight wovens
- Bed sheets ( may require lining with an up charge)
- Micro suede
Semi loose and shabby chic slipcovers: (relaxed to loose fitting)
- Pre washed denim
- Pre washed twill
- Pre washed linen
- Pre washed decorator cotton, cotton/blends

I do not recommend :
- Slipcovering recliners
- Slipcovering leather furniture
- Slipcovering furniture with exposed wood frames
